Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini feels it is time to change history at Eastlands

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini believes it is time to change the history at Eastlands by ending their 35-year trophy drought.

Mancini has asked his players to give their best performance in the upcoming FA Cup semi-final against local rivals Manchester United at the Wembley Stadium.

Mancini said, “All my players should understand very well this is a big moment for us. We can change the history of the club. The first trophy is the hardest but it is time for Manchester City to win something.”

Despite huge investment from owner Sheikh Mansour at Eastlands, Manchester City are yet to win a piece of silverware. With new players in the team, the Citizens have become a stronger force in English football. For the past two seasons, Manchester City have made it to the last four of the FA Cup and Carling Cup. However, they failed to go all the way through in both competitions.

Manchester City, who are placed fourth in the Premier League and are strong contenders to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, will now look to end United’s hopes of winning treble this season in the semi-final of the FA Cup.

However, their FA Cup semi-final bid suffered a huge blow when their skipper Carlos Tevez limped off from the pitch in an embarrassing 3-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield.

Roberto Mancini was content with his team’s performance against Liverpool as he claimed that such bad result was due on his side. The Italian wants his team to bounce back and create history by defeating Manchester United at Wembley.

“When you build a new team you can always lose matches, like we did against Liverpool. It is the first time in a year that we played like that. And it was better to happen at Liverpool than on Saturday. The important thing is that we don't go there and think about the enormity of the game,” added Mancini.
