City's debut in the UEFA Champions League

Group A

City's debut in the UEFA Champions League will see them take on four-times European champions Bayern Munich after the draw was made in Monaco.

Ruud Gullit drew City out of pot three, but it was former German captain Paul Breitner who drew the ball that put the Blues in the same group as the Bavarian giants.

Spain's Villarreal had already been put into Group A alongside Bayern, and Napoli completed matters.

Like City, Napolihave never competed in the Champions League in its current format, and like the Blues, they have only played once in the European Cup (the Champions League's original format prior to 1992).

Bayern have a proud history in Europe and have won the Champions League in 2001 as well as lifting the European Cup three times. They have rarely been out of the competition and have won the Bundesliga a record 22 times as well as winning the UEFA and European Cup Winners' Cups.

Villareal have only lost five of 26 Champions League games and have reached the semi-finals as recently as 2006. All in a all - not an easy group!
