Daniel Welbeck pays respect to Manchester United’s youth academy coaches – English Premier League

Daniel Welbeck emerged as Manchester United’s stand out player in their 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on the past Monday and now the striker has paid homage to the youth academy coaches at Manchester United as he praised them in his latest interview to the media. Manchester United as a club who have a history of bringing out good youth academy players is seen as one of the foremost footballing institutions in the world.

David Beckham, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs all reached the heights that they did due to the coaching that they received at the youth academy level. Judging from the latest batch of United’s youngsters, the youth academy coaches haven’t lost their touch. It was evident from Welbeck’s one assist and one goal at Old Trafford against Tottenham Hotspur, that the young striker has bags of ability in his locker. It wasn’t only Welbeck who impressed against Spurs but it was also his youth academy team mate and close friend, Thomas Cleverley who emerged as a crowd favourite as he assisted Welbeck’s first and United’s opening goal of the encounter at the Theatre of Dreams.

Welbeck did remarkably well against Dawson and Kaboul in Tottenham’s defence and in his latest interview he has lauded the partnership that exists between him and Cleverley due to their time at the youth academy. He said that when Tom got the ball on the right wing, he knew that the midfielder was going to cross it in. Welbeck anticipated the cross perfectly and netted United’s first goal of the match.

He added, “We’ve both been at the Academy for years and years – about 10 years – so to both come into the Manchester United first team is a massive achievement. We’re so grateful to all the coaches we’ve had throughout the youth system and we’ll never forget them. We’ll always be grateful to them.”

Welbeck also elaborated on the starting line up place in Manchester United’s squad, the young target man stated, “You know that once you’re in that starting eleven, you’ve got to work hard to keep your place. So I think everyone’s working hard in training and doing their best to get in the starting eleven. Whoever’s chosen is going to give it their best shot. I think Tom and I have shown we’ll work hard for the team when picked.”

Daniel will most likely start against Arsenal on the next weekend for Manchester United as the Red Devils will surely look to make it three out of three wins and ensure a perfect start to their English Premier League season.
