Fabio Capello praises Phil Jones and hint at a future place in the England national team – International Football

Fabio Capello has come out and praised Phil Jones, the new Manchester United defender on his recent performances for the Red Devils, as the Italian manager has also hinted at a future place in the English national team setup for the former Blackburn player. Jones played for Manchester United throughout the pre-season after completing his big money move to Old Trafford from Blackburn Rovers. Manchester United started chasing the youngster in January and then finally managed to bring the Englishman to Old Trafford in the early weeks of the 2011 summer transfer window

Jones has been thrown right into the fray due to the injuries to Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in the Manchester United back line. Both the veteran defenders sustained injuries in Manchester United’s opening weekend win against West Bromwich Albion. In their second league match, Sir Alex Ferguson awarded Jones and Chris Smalling starts in central defence against Tottenham Hotspur and the English pairing did really well to nullify the threat of Rafael Van der Vaart and Jermaine De Foe.

It will be interesting to see who starts for United in their match against Arsenal on 28th of August, 2011 but Jones is a favourite at Old Trafford to start against the Gunners due to his performance against Tottenham last week. The English national team manager has also noticed Jones’ displays for his new club and Capello is determined to give the former Blackburn player a chance.

The former A.C Milan manager said that Jones is a lot similar to Wilshere in terms of talent. He went onto say that the youthful defender always looks for the ball and is someone who has played well throughout his career at every level up till now. Capello added, "It is not easy to find a player who is so young that can play with so much confidence."

Speaking about whether or not Jones can knock down a spot in the English national team, the experienced manager said, "He could do it. We need to wait because so far he has played one Premier League game and some minutes at Wembley but potentially he is a fantastic player. He needs to play more games with Manchester United”.

The English national team manager concluded his interview by stating that Jones needs to be ready to play with the English national team like Wilshere was after he played some matches with Arsenal. England are set to resume their European Championship 2012 qualification next month but it remains to be seen whether Wilshere and Jones will be a part of Capello’s squad.
