Audi UK signs two-year sponsorship agreement to become Official Car Supplier to the world’s most famous football club

Premiership football club Manchester United and prestige motor manufacturer Audi have this week signed a milestone agreement which will team some of the world’s most talented football stars with some of the world’s finest luxury cars.

Manchester United, the most successful football team in the history of the Premiership and the most famous football brand world wide, has signed a two-season sponsorship agreement with Audi UK – the club’s first ever alliance with a motor manufacturer.

Audi UK, the most progressive and rapidly evolving brand in the premium sector with a strong reputation built on quality, design and technological innovation, is to be the official supplier of cars to the club. Approximately 20 Audi models will be made available for use, as personal transport by senior team executives, including manager Sir Alex Ferguson, Club CEO David Gill and high profile players.

Commenting on the agreement, Head of Audi Marketing Gary Savage said: "Audi UK is proud to have forged links with the most famous of football brands. Manchester United is synonymous with quality, exceptional performance and success achieved through dedication and drive, so its ethos perfectly complements the Audi values of Vorsprung durch Technik."

Adding his comments on the agreement with Audi UK, Manchester United’s Chief Executive David Gill said; " We are obviously delighted to have Audi UK as one of our commercial partners with immediate effect and are looking forward to developing a comprehensive communications programme that helps us both achieve our business goals. Audi is a superb brand, that sits perfectly alongside the likes of Vodafone, Nike, Fuji, Budweiser and Pepsi."

The players and senior managers have a wide range of exceptional Audi models to choose from. If optimum comfort is their goal the A8 luxury saloon (£46,175 OTR to £75,775 OTR) offers outstanding space, refinement and performance, particularly in long wheelbase, 6.0-litre, 450PS W12 form. That luxury is available in a more compact package in the new A6 saloon (£24,425 OTR to £44,485 OTR), combining a range of advanced four-cylinder, V6 and V8 petrol and TDI engines delivering up to 335PS with the latest Audi exterior design and in-car technology.

If high performance is paramount, the 480PS, 175mph, bi-turbo V8 RS6 quattro plus Avant (£66,675 OTR) offers incredible pace delivered safely thanks to its quattro permanent four-wheel-drive system. The 344PS V8-powered S4 quattro Saloon, Avant and Cabriolet models (£36,835 OTR to £40,945 OTR) and the remarkable TT 3.2 quattro with the innovative Direct Shift Gearbox (£29,745 OTR to £31,995 OTR) could also be on their wish list.

As part of the agreement, all team members will be invited to participate in the Audi Driving Experience training programme. The Driving Experience encourages responsible driving through comprehensive instruction on all aspects of car control, honing the skills needed to get the very best out of every Audi.

Audi UK is actively involved with a variety of cultural and sporting events and teams, lending its support to British skiing, to polo and to motor sport, campaigning its own Audi Sport UK Team Veloqx R8 racing cars in the 2004 Le Mans 24-hour marathon.

The Red Devil Airbus A320

Some football fans may laugh, others cry, but there will surely be a glint of pride in the eyes of at least a few Manchester United supporters, when they see 'their' latest plane.

Low cost airline, AirAsia has honored Manchester United, one of the most popular football clubs in the world, by having one of its aircraft painted in the colors of the club.

The 9M-AFC, otherwise known as the Red Devil Airbus A320, arrived at the KL International Airport from Toulouse, France. The 180 seater Airbus A320 is emblazoned in signature red, and adorned with images of the club's elite players on both sides of the aircraft's fuselage. The tail and aircraft engines also feature the Manchester United Football Club's Crest.

AirAsia's Group Chief Executive Officer, Dato' Tony Fernandes, and Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer, Kamarudin Meranun, posses in front of the newly arrived Airbus A320 which spots a unique livery in conjunction with AirAsia's partnership with Manchester United

"Manchester United has one of the biggest following in Asia. As the official low fare airline for Manchester United, AirAsia hopes to create opportunities and exciting avenues to reach out and connect with MU's loyal fan base in Asia. As such, it is only befitting that we dedicate the aircraft to all the Manchester United Fans in Asia." said Dato' Tony Fernandes, Group CEO, AirAsia Berhad.

"We are delighted to be the first football club in the world to own our very own aircraft livery. The AirAsia Red Devil Airbus is an epitome of how a dynamic sponsor like AirAsia, can creatively blend art and function into their everyday business. The plane will certainly ensure we're the most well traveled team in Asia" said Peter Draper, Marketing Director, Manchester United Football Club.

The Red Devil Airbus A320 is AirAsia's 3rd Airbus delivery within 2 months. The aircraft will commence servicing Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Surabaya, Indonesia, from 3rd February 2006.

Nike’s New Manchester United Home Kit Update

The image of the Manchester United Team in their shiny new Nike Home Kits interests us at Footy Boots not for the shiny new kit (with its new collar, tail detailing and premiership badge) but for the football boots worn by the assembled Man United players.

Manchester United 07-08 New Kit SMall

Rooney leads the line in his yellow Nike Total 90 Laser football boots – even though he prefers to wear the white / black colourway for actually playing in. The yellow Nike T90 Lasers are dotted around the team, along with the white, indicating the impact the new football boot have made already on professional players – including Paul Scholes, normally a Nike Total 90 Supremacy wearer. Cristiano Ronaldo is finally out of his white Mercurial Vapor III, and is wearing the new dark blue colourway. Interestingly Ryan Giggs is not in Reebok Sprintfits, but in his old Reebok Pro Rage, possibly indicating the age of the photo. For Team Adidas, we have the standard Adidas Predator Absolute Power football boots, with no showing of any new Predator colourways. The most intriguing feature is Michael Carrick, long-time Puma football boot wearer, wearing Nike Air Legend football boots! Is this a new signing for Nike, or simply a case of Carrick being added into the photo at a later stage?

The names of a few of the players have us stumped here at Footy Boots central, many of them looking like rejects from a police line-up, so any readers want to pitch in and let us know the names and football boots of the fringe players in the picture, feel free to tell us the score!!

New Nike Manchester United Home Kit Details

The front of the home jersey features an engineered mesh pattern inspired by the architecture of Old Trafford & the contours of the body. On the back of the jersey a flash of white tape frames the name & number with a fine black stripe, MUFC and the Red Devil emblem inside. As a final touch there is a label with the Red Devil emblem and the nickname “The Red Devils”. White shorts and black socks complete the new home kit.

The kit has been made using Nike Dri-FIT fabric. Nike Dri-FIT garments sit next to the body and transport moisture away from the skin to the fabric’s surface for rapid evaporation, keeping the athlete comfortable for longer. Moisture management is achieved through several mechanical fabric construction methods. The fabrics are designed to move excess moisture away from the skin and spread it out over the large surface area of he fabric face so that it can quickly evaporate.

The new Manchester United Home kit will be available from 1st August 2007. Pre Order the New Nike Manchester United Home Kit now from Kitbag.

It was a hard time... I had missed the first camp [under new head coach Pia Sundhage] in early-January because I had bronchitis, and I was going through a nasty break-up with my girlfriend. Then [Coach Sundhage] told me my job was on the line.
